Misleading advertising of ‘Reetone’ shoe by Reebok cost them $25mn.Reebok advertisement claimed that its shoes give the perfect posterior. But USA’s Federal Trade Commission found their claim bad and imposed a fine of USD 25 million on the global sporting goods giant Reebok.
This advertisement of Reebok shoes feature close-ups of a different models’ bottoms in every shape pert, round or even heart-shaped – and claimed that these can be achieved by their ‘toning shoes’ ‘Reetone’.
The ads had spouted science, claiming that the shoes could strengthen the muscles of the thighs, legs and buttocks – but the Federal Trade Commission found their claim bad and imposed a fine of USD 25 million with a warning of not to make any scientific claims in the future without evidence.
The company has a whole range of toning products like RunTone running shoes, EasyTone walking shoes, flip flops and toning clothing that will apparently turn you into a svelte goddess, all modelled by celebrities like Eva Mendes, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Brook etc.

Interesting.
That sounds like a huge misstep.

Nice article. I’m sure they can afford it too.
*don’t high heels have the same affect?*
How bad marketing technique.
I know they make huge sums of money, but $25 million probably put a little dent in the profits for that particular product line.
very interesting post
